She has covered sports in many of the top media outlets across the world. She worked for The Washington Post nearly a decade, covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well playing basketball in multiple Olympics. Nichols started a nine-year stint at ESPN where she was awarded two Emmy Awards, and featured on a number of the network's best programs like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. In addition, Nichols was a sideline journalist for the Monday Night Football broadcasts. Her next move was to CNN as well as Turner Sports. Nichols covered NBA broadcasts on TNT, including the playoffs, regular season and All-Star broadcasts. She has also worked for TBS as a reporter for golf and baseball broadcasts. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. This is only the second nomination in the 42 years that have preceded this award to a woman out of more than 200 contenders.
